Things to Do in Da Nang, Vietnam: Ba Na Hills, Marble Mountains, Son Tra and Beaches

Handcrafted luxury private travel experience in Vietnam designed around your passions.

Da Nang is Vietnam's easiest beach city: a long coastline, a mountain park, marble cliffs and two famous heritage towns within an hour or two. Here are the best things to do in Da Nang and how to group them.

The best things to do in Da Nang

1. Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge

A mountain resort reached by cable car. Its headline sight, the Golden Bridge, is held by two giant stone hands at about 1,400 meters and is close to 150 meters long. Go in the morning, and plan most of a day, since the cable car is the only way up. The park also has a French-style village and a pagoda. See our Ba Na Hills tour and Golden Bridge page.

2. Marble Mountains

Five limestone hills topped with pagodas and cut with caves, about 7 km from the center. Two to three hours is enough. Pair it with a beach or Hoi An. See our Marble Mountains tour.

3. Son Tra Peninsula

A nature reserve northeast of the city, home to the red-shanked douc langur, one of the rarest primates in the world. The Linh Ung Pagoda has the tallest Lady Buddha statue in Vietnam. See our Son Tra excursion.

4. My Khe beach

A broad city beach for a swim at dawn and seafood by the sea.

5. The Dragon Bridge

The iron dragon on the bridge breathes fire and water at scheduled shows. Ask your hotel for the current schedule.

6. Day trips: Hoi An, Hue and Hai Van Pass

Hoi An is about 30 km south (see Da Nang to Hoi An). Hue is a longer day trip, and the Hai Van Pass adds roughly 30 to 45 minutes to the drive. See our Hue guide.

A 3-day Da Nang plan

  • Day 1: Ba Na Hills early, beach in the evening.
  • Day 2: Marble Mountains in the morning, Son Tra and the Dragon Bridge later.
  • Day 3: Hoi An, or a day trip to Hue.

When to go

March to May is a good window. September to November brings storm risk that can disrupt boats and flood roads toward Hue. See best time to visit Vietnam.
