Hoi An is only about 30 km south of Da Nang, so the transfer is short and easy. Here are your options and how to make the trip part of the day.
The short answer
Hoi An is about 30 km from Da Nang. By car it takes roughly 45 to 60 minutes, depending on traffic and where you start. A private driver is the most comfortable choice, especially from Da Nang airport.
Ways to get from Da Nang to Hoi An
- Private car with driver: door to door from the airport or a hotel, and you can stop on the way. Best for families and anyone with luggage.
- Taxi or ride-hailing app: convenient and quick to book; agree the fare or use the meter.
- Public bus: the cheapest option, but slower and with fixed stops.
- Motorbike: only for confident riders. Roads are busy and wet days are dangerous.
Stops worth making on the way
- Marble Mountains: five limestone hills with caves and pagodas, about 7 km from Da Nang. Allow two to three hours. See our Marble Mountains tour.
- Beach road: a stop at a beach between the two cities for a swim or a coffee.
Da Nang to Hue is a different route
The mountain pass between Da Nang and Hue is the Hai Van Pass, which is north, not on the way to Hoi An. Going over the pass adds roughly half an hour to an hour to the Hue drive.
