The south enjoys cool, dry conditions that make it ideal for beaches, boat trips and city sightseeing in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta. The central coast is mild and mostly clear, while Hanoi and the north can be cool and misty — perfect for trekking in Sapa and Ha Giang.
Cool and dry (15–20°C). Light mist in highland areas. Good for Sapa, Ha Giang, and Hanoi city tours.
Mild and mostly dry. Good beach weather begins on the Da Nang–Hoi An coast. Ideal for Hue and Hoi An.
Peak dry season. Perfect weather for Mekong Delta, Phu Quoc beaches, and Ho Chi Minh City.

★★★★★ Travel ratingFor those seeking the "best month" to visit Vietnam, many would argue February is it. Offering the driest weather, most consistent sunshine and moderate temperatures, a February visit is ideal in all parts of the country.
Cool and clear (18–22°C). Minimal rain. Excellent for Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Ha Long Bay, and Sapa trekking.
Warm and dry. Best time for Hoi An, Da Nang beaches, and Hue imperial sites.
Dry season peak. Phu Quoc, Con Dao, and the Mekong Delta are all outstanding. Ideal beach weather.
Best places to visit in July
★★★ Travel ratingJuly offers a variety of different weather patterns. Central Vietnam still hangs on to its hot weather with occasional rain, while the south stays firm in its rainy season — daily downpours are almost a guarantee. In the north, weather patterns feature high temperatures and daily heavy rains.
Hot, humid, and rainy (30–35°C). Flooding risk in highland areas. Cat Ba beach is popular.
Hot with increasing rain. Da Nang and Hoi An can still be enjoyed between showers.
Rainy season peak. Con Dao and Phu Quoc not ideal for island activities.
Best places to visit in August
★★★ Travel ratingAugust is a transitional period, particularly in central Vietnam where the hot summer months finally give way to chances of rain. The southern portion of the country still sits in the rainy season.
Hot and rainy (30–34°C). Ha Giang in peak green rice terrace season — spectacular views.
Very hot with increasing rain. Nha Trang and Mui Ne remain relatively dry.
Rainy season. Lessening towards end of month. Ho Chi Minh City fully accessible between showers.
Best places to visit in September
★★★ Travel ratingSeptember is another transitional month. In the north, the weather starts to break for the better. Ha Giang's rice harvest season turns the terraces into spectacular golden fields.
Cooling (25–30°C). Rice harvest season in Mu Cang Chai and Ha Giang — absolutely stunning.
Rain increasing on the central coast. Potential for typhoons.
Still rainy but tapering off. Good for Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta visits.
Best places to visit in October
★★★★ Travel ratingThe north sees continued improvement in October, with less rainfall, less humidity and more palatable temperatures. In the south, conditions start to improve with lessening rainfall and more consistent sunny days.
Cooling and clearing (22–28°C). One of the best months for Hanoi, Ha Long Bay and Ninh Binh.
Rainy season peak. Flooding possible in Hoi An and Hue. Best to avoid central coast.
Improving rapidly. Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta and Phu Quoc beaches are good.

★★★★★ Travel ratingNovember marks a great period of weather for some parts of the country. North Vietnam moves into its most pleasant part of the year. In the south, the rainy season comes to an end, returning the region to its glorious dry season.
Cool and clear (18–24°C). Excellent for Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh and northern highlands.
Late rainy season (use caution). Nha Trang and Mui Ne improve significantly by late November.
Dry season returns. Perfect weather returns to Phu Quoc, Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta.
Best places to visit in December
★★★★★ Travel ratingDecember is a great month for almost all destinations in Vietnam. The northern part of the country continues to enjoy its sunny, cool, rain-free weather. The south continues to enjoy classic beach weather.
Cool and dry (15–20°C). Far north (Sapa, Ha Giang) sees occasional frost. Great for highland villages.
Improving steadily. Nha Trang returns to sunshine. Hoi An and Da Nang transition to dry.
Peak dry season. All destinations open and excellent — from Phu Quoc to Con Dao to the Delta.
