Why Visit Cao Bang? Nature, Culture and Adventure
Located in northeastern Vietnam, Cao Bang province shares a border with China and derives its name from the Vietnamese phrase for “high flat land.” The province is filled with incredible natural beauty, which includes lush forests, flowing rivers, and the limestone mountains that create some of the most dramatic scenery in all of Vietnam.
Cao Bang has a number of famous sites, including Pac Bo (where Ho Chi Minh returned to Vietnam for the first time in 1941), and the associated Lenin Stream and Karl Marx Mountain. Additionally, one of the greatest attractions in Cao Bang is Ban Gioc Waterfall, located on the border between Vietnam and China and among the largest and most breathtaking waterfalls in all of Southeast Asia.
The stunning natural environment provides inspiration for many of the local dishes, including specialities such as sour noodles, Coong Phu cake, steamed rice rolls, and many other local mountain vegetables.
The period between August and September is a good time to visit as the Ban Gioc Waterfall is the most spectacular during that time, and, if you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the wild sunflower, which adds a welcome splash of colour to the otherwise barren landscape in November and December.
