Cat Ba National Park
Where Mountains Meet the Sea
Cat Ba National Park, located on Cat Ba Island in northern Vietnam, is a true hidden gem for nature lovers. As one of the world’s largest biosphere reserves, it offers a rare mix of land and marine ecosystems – from dense tropical forests to colorful coral reefs and quiet mangrove swamps.
The park spans over 15,000 hectares and is home to rare wildlife, including the endangered Cat Ba langur, red-faced monkeys, king cobras, and giant flying squirrels. Its landscapes are just as diverse, with limestone mountains, peaceful valleys, and beautiful caves like Quan Y (a former military hospital) and Trung Trang.
There’s plenty to do for outdoor enthusiasts. Hiking trails lead through the jungle to scenic lookouts like Ngu Lam Peak or down into the heart of the forest and caves. Kayaking is a great way to explore the calm waters and hidden coves around Lan Ha Bay, while diving gives you a glimpse of the vibrant underwater world. If you’re into climbing, Cat Ba also has some of the best limestone cliffs in the region.
Spring (February-April) brings blooming cherry blossoms and mild temperatures, while autumn (September-November) offers clear skies and ideal conditions for trekking and sightseeing.
Whether you’re hiking, paddling, climbing, or simply enjoying fresh seafood in a quiet fishing village, Cat Ba National Park is the perfect spot to connect with Vietnam’s wild side.
