Excursion to Long Tan & Nui Dat Battlefields
Discover history on a fascinating full-day guided tour of the Long Tan and Nui Dat battlefields, key sites from the Vietnam War.
Your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City or directly from Phu My Port. From there, sit back and enjoy a scenic three-hour drive through the countryside to Ba Ria–Vung Tau Province, accompanied by your local guide, who knows the area and its history inside out.
The first stop is Nui Dat SAS Hill, the former base of the Australian Task Force. Here, you’ll see the old helicopter pad, the remains of the camp area, and get a sense of the vast 4-kilometer perimeter that once secured the base. You’ll also pass through the surrounding rubber plantations and by Mong Ngua Mountain, once a hiding place for Vietnamese troops.
Next, you’ll visit the Long Tan Cross Memorial, a solemn tribute to both Australian and Vietnamese soldiers who lost their lives in the fierce 1966 battle – one of the most intense encounters of the Vietnam War.
The journey continues to the Long Phuoc Tunnels, an underground network once used by the Viet Cong for combat operations, concealment, and supply movement.
Afterward, enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant in Ba Ria before making the return trip to your original pickup point.
