Cuc Phuong

Cuc Phuong National Park was the first national park of the country, given protected status by Ho Chi Minh in 1962. Ho Chi Minh was keen on reminding people that environment conservation is important. The national park is home to 300 species of birds, rare wildlife, thousands of flora, and 1880 species of fauna. Several large animals such as bears and panthers call Cuc Phuong their home, but they are rarely seen nowadays. Visitors are more likely to see pheasants, flying squirrels, monkeys, and gibbons in their natural habitat. The park is also home to some endangered species such as the black crested gibbon, golden-headed langur, Tonkin snub-nosed langur, and the delacour’s langur.

For those who lack time, you can visit Cuc Phuong on a day trip. Cuc Phuong takes 2 hours by car from Hanoi. Aside from walking and trekking the several paths and trails, you can go to a huge network of limestone caves where you can find remains of mankind that date back 12000 years. The park is also home to the Turtle Conservation Centre, Endangered Primate Resource Centre, and Small Carnivore Conservation Centre. These centres are important for the rehabilitation, breeding, and preservation of animals rescued from poachers.
