6 very good friends (3 couples) decided to travel to Vietnam. So we're around the 50's age group and are well and truly over 'roughing it'. Halong Violet, sister ship to Halong Ginger and Halong Jasmine, was the perfect luxury experience. We stayed at Sofitel Metropole Hanoi, who generously held our big luggage so we traveled light and with bare essentials. They were well organized picking us up from the hotel and transferring to Halong Bay and returning us to the hotel. We were greeted by Violet crew at the harbour and transported to our Junk immediately. Violet caters for maximum of 12 guests and with a crew of 20, so you can imagine the level of attention to detail. This cruise was ideal for us as a group as we felt as though Violet was completely ours. 4 main double cabins with 2 more double cabins on lower deck. All were impeccably fitted out with all amenities. My partner, Carolyn, struggled to find a power point to plug the hair dryer, but all was forgotten within minutes as there's always something going on to distract. All the food was amazing and prepared by chefs whom also run cooking classes. The weather was around 15 degrees Celsius at night and around 20 degrees in daytime. it didn't stop us visiting fishing villages, kayaking, enjoying a cocktail in a cave which looked sublime. Dinner on board was great as all the guests were Aussie!! I rose very early in the morning to view sunrise at it's utmost majestic moment. A very thin mist slowly elevated above the water and rose gently and mystically above the other moored junks. Tai Chi, then breaky and cooking class We had the 2 day/1 night cruise but should have taken the 3 day/2 night option. Maybe next time!! Thank you Violet Crew. We all had an amazing time.
